Sam Wiseman is a Tax Manager in our advisory department. She is a member of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Sam has lots of experience of dealing with large landed estates, mixed fund trusts, offshore trusts and onshore trusts with both UK and non UK resident beneficiaries. Sam also advises on Inheritance Tax planning. Sam speaks fluent Mandarin which is useful for clients from the Far East.

UK Trusts

We attend to the tax compliance and advisory needs of UK Trustees. This includes reviewing the tax position of trusts (tax pool) and advising upon the maximum income distribution without incurring additional tax charges. We also advise if a capital distribution is more beneficial for tax purposes. We can help with the CGT complications on setting-up, winding-up and asset distributions, and arrive at the most tax efficient position. We also deal with HMRC enquiries on behalf of trustees.

Offshore Trusts

As a firm, we are increasingly involved in reviewing offshore structures for our clients and taking actions to ensure that they are in full compliance with UK tax law. The UK Government continues to increase the powers of HM Revenue & Customs, as well as the anti-avoidance legislation that applies to offshore trusts and companies. HMRC have agreed deals with Jersey and Guernsey to share information, and with the increasing focus within the EU regarding the exchange of taxpayers information and targeting of “tax havens”, the pressure on taxpayers is really growing.

We are experienced in dealing with disclosures to HMRC of previously unreported income. We also regularly advise on the UK tax implications of income and capital payments to UK resident beneficiaries, as well as accounting for IHT periodical charges on UK assets of non-resident trusts.

Our core client base includes many non UK domiciled individuals, so we have a wealth of experience in using that status beneficially. We set-up structures that enable clients to benefit from low tax rates in other jurisdictions whilst staying firmly within the UK law.

Sam is experienced in dealing with tax issues on behalf of Executors of Estates and working with the appointed Solicitor. This includes all aspects of reporting Estate income and capital gains, and the IHT payable on death. We can also review specific matters such as whether Business Property Relief or Agricultural Property Relief can be claimed on assets.
